Wall & Floor Tiling in Brighton & East Sussex

Tiling is a trade where precision is everything. A well-tiled floor or wall can last a lifetime and define the luxury of a space, but a poor job with uneven lippage or messy grout lines will ruin the effect immediately. Ridge Group Contracting provides specialist tiling services in Brighton, Hove, and East Sussex. Our experienced tilers work with all materials, from standard ceramics to high-end natural stone and intricate mosaics, delivering a flawless finish for bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, and exteriors.

Our Tiling Services

We handle projects of all sizes, from a simple kitchen splashback to large-format commercial floors.

Ceramic & Porcelain

Porcelain is the most versatile choice for modern homes. It is incredibly hard-wearing, water-resistant, and available in endless finishes, including wood-effect and concrete-effect. We advise on slip ratings (R-ratings) for floor tiles to ensure safety in wet areas like bathrooms and utility rooms.

Natural Stone

We are experts in laying marble, travertine, slate, and limestone. These materials are beautiful but require specialist knowledge. We use the correct white adhesives to prevent staining, and we apply high-quality impregnating sealers to protect the stone from water and dirt. We ensure the tiles are blended correctly to highlight the natural variation in the stone.

Victorian Geometric Tiling

Brighton’s period homes often feature intricate geometric pathways leading to the front door. These are a key heritage feature. We can restore existing damaged paths or lay new reproduction Victorian tiles in traditional patterns (York, Dorchester, etc.), creating a stunning entrance that adds massive kerb appeal.

Mosaics and Feature Walls

We install mosaic tiles for wet room floors (to follow the fall of the drain) and feature niches. We also install split-face slate for feature walls in living areas or gardens.

Preparation: The Foundation of Tiling

We never tile directly onto unsuitable substrates.

  • Backer Boards: We use tile backer boards (like HardieBacker or Wedi) instead of plywood in wet areas. These are waterproof and do not warp, preventing tiles from cracking.

  • Decoupling Membranes: For large floor areas, we use decoupling mats (like Schluter-Ditra). These absorb lateral movement in the subfloor, preventing cracks from transferring through to the tiles.

  • Levelling: We use self-levelling compounds to ensure the floor is perfectly flat before we start laying.

Wet Rooms and Tanking

Waterproofing is critical in bathrooms. Before tiling a shower area or wet room, we apply a comprehensive tanking system (liquid membrane or matting) to the walls and floor. This ensures that water can never penetrate through to the structure of the building, preventing leaks and rot.

Underfloor Heating

Tiled floors can be cold. We specialise in installing electric underfloor heating mats prior to tiling. This provides luxurious warmth and helps dry the floor quickly in wet rooms.

Exterior Tiling

We also lay external porcelain pavers. These are 20mm thick tiles designed for patios. They offer a seamless transition from an indoor kitchen to an outdoor terrace, looking sleek and modern while being frost-proof and anti-slip.
